Is there anything better than opening your bedroom shutters to greet the warming rays of the morning sun; to relax on your balcony listening to the sound of the sea lapping at the rocks below; to watch the comings and goings of harbour life from your poolside terrace or, to enjoy dinner and a chilled glass of wine in the company of a Greek sunset? No? We totally agree.
Here are seven GIC villas which we feel offer some of the best views in Greece.
The Limonari Villas, Meganissi
A short ferry (30-minutes) connects the Ionian Island of Meganissi with neighbouring Lefkas. Life here is relaxed and of a slow pace, and the atmospheric villages and natural landscapes are unspoiled and authentic.
From your private veranda you can experience the uninterrupted blue of the Ionian which wraps around the idyllic coastline. You can see for miles around.
Villa Pyrgos, Skopelos (by day)
The largest island in the Sporades group, Skopelos is a charming destination which has so much to offer. Sparkling clear waters and protected coves are perfect for wild swimming, village communities with their rich heritage and traditions are fascinating to visit, marked walking trails allow visitors to reach historic monasteries and abandoned settlements, and local delicacies from the island’s farmers and fishermen can be sampled in the numerous locally-owned cafes and restaurants.
From Villa Pyrgos on the east coast of Skopelos, guests can enjoy one of the most dramatic settings on the island and magnificent views across the sea to Alonissos. Take a dip in the infinity swimming pool and absorb the panorama.
Villa Rose, Skopelos
From its beautiful terraced grounds and swimming pool, Villa Rose has spectacular views across the Aegean Sea to Skopelos Town, one of the most characterful ports in Greece. It is easy to while away the day watching boats arriving and departing from the harbour and, in the evening, the town’s twinkling lights illuminate the scene.
Robin’s Nest, Corfu
Very few islands have the diversity of landscape, character, architecture and feel as that of Corfu. From the Venetian capital, Kerkyra (Corfu Town) to the sandy shores of Halikounas and the mountain villages of the North East coast even the most seasoned Grecophile will be gripped by the island’s appeal.
Robin’s Nest near Agios Stefanos on the north west coast of Corfu has a special hillside position and dramatic views down through the valley to the sea. The recent addition of a large picture window from the living room now allows the natural surroundings and light to flood into the property.
Fifteen minutes walk from the sandy beach of Vrika you will find Bacchus House, a secluded stone cottage that offers total privacy. The outdoor terraces and plunge pool are surrounded by a sheltered garden and afford wonderful views over the island’s vineyards and across the sea to the Greek mainland. There is no better place to read your book and enjoy the calm.
Sunset House, Kefalonia
Never has a property been so aptly named than Sunset House on Kefalonia. The property delivers exactly what it promises, theatrical views of the sun setting behind the Lixouri peninsula. Get your camera ready as there is no doubt that you will capture the curtain closing on the day more than once during your stay.
The cosmopolitan harbour of Fiscardo and its port, from which boats depart to the neighbouring island of Ithaca, is a mere 8km from Sunset House. It is a popular pastime to enjoy a sundowner drink from one of the many tavernas and bars which line its waterfront as the sailing boats moor for the evening.
The Lefki Villas, Ithaca
Each morning, as you open the doors from your living room, a view across the strait to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia will unfold before your eyes. Sailing boats will dance on the breeze and motorboats will come and go. In the evening, the lights of Kefalonia’s north coast provide a magical backdrop to the property once the setting sun has disappeared below the horizon.
With a view like this, you will never want to leave. If you do, however you will discover an island relatively untouched by tourism with mountains, crystal clear waters and tiny fishing villages.
